Timothy Narvel Irwin, 69, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, at Hickory House Nursing Home in Honey Brook Township, Chester County. Born in Fostoria, Ohio, he was the son of the late Edward W. and Jean Hope Irwin. Tim's sister Rebecca (Irwin) Hook, her husband, James M. Hook Sr., and their daughter Elizabeth J. H. Byerley, all of Chester County, were by his side when he was called home to be with the Lord.

Tim was raised with a strong faith that he practiced for decades at Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church. He loved to serve as a greeter and usher there, introducing himself to all visitors and making them feel welcome. On Feb. 3, 2008, the church named Tim an honorary deacon.

Friends and family often took Tim out to restaurants, sporting events, church events, concerts or just to spend time with him. Chocolate malted milkshakes were a favorite, and for many years he documented his trips and the people he met with pictures he took with his Polaroid camera. He enjoyed spending time with friends and staff at Active Day of Exton, an adult day service for seniors and adults with special abilities.

Tim enjoyed listening to Glenn Miller and other big band music. He also enjoyed watching old TV game shows, taking particular pleasure in guessing what color suit each host was wearing before they appeared on screen.

In 2011, Tim proudly accepted a proclamation from the Chester County Board of Commissioners proclaiming March as Intellectual Disability Awareness Month. Tim worked for many years at Handi-Crafters in Caln Township, Chester County.

Tim is survived by his sister, Rebecca (James M.) Hook of East Fallowfield, PA, sister-in-law, Pamela Irwin of Lancaster, PA, 13 nieces and nephews, 44 great nieces and nephews, and countless other family and friends who were blessed to be a part of a remarkable life full of laughter and love.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1121 Octorara Trail, Parkesburg, PA, with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. until service time.  Interment to follow in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the church at the above address or to Handi-Crafters, P.O. Box 72646, Thorndale, PA, 19372.

Tim was an inspiration to me from when I knew him when his father was my instrumental teacher in middle school.  I am so sad to hear of his passing.  He was always supported by his family in so many ways.  Now he has joined his parents with the Lord.

Tim was a joy to talk to and to visit with when we had our monthly visits. He will definitely be missed by so many. He had a big heart that he always wanted to include everyone and pray for everyone too. Becky and Jim you will miss him but know that he is with our Lord and SaviorJesus Christ…praising and singing to Him.

So sorry for your loss. I can only smile when I think of Tim. He was such a happy guy, and greeted everyone at church by name including me and my siblings (Cindy, Wayne, & Lori) Timmy touched so many lives at Upper Octorara, and wherever our paths crossed. May Tim’s family feel the love.

What a blessing for our family to have known Tim. He was an angel in our midst. Wishing the Irwin and Hook families peace. May Tim be resting with our Lord.

After working with Tim's Dad and for his Mother, and teaching some of his cousins, I had the pleasure to bump into him in the dining room at Hickory House when I was  rehabbing from my operation . When I told him my name, he remembered me as an old friend that sure helped with recovery as did my therapy. Thank you God for a chance to meet an angel as were many nurses, aides, therapy techs and office angels. Because of them and Tim I learned what my new carreer in life was going to be.  Thanks Tim

I know MM will be looking out for him and so many others that cared for him. I knew him when attending the day center. Tim was such an inspiration to all who knew him and those who he would come to meet. He was a friend to all and had a memory like a steel trap. If he didn't know you when he walked in, you were his friend when he walked out, and he never forgot your name. I have so many fond memories spending time with Tim!  The most fun was riding in my convertible from Country Gardens to choir rehearsal as fast as we could so that we would beat Becky into the church. OH! He thought that was so funny.  HIs love of the Lord and intentional witness filled my heart. He was always first to pray.

Tim, we need all the prayers we can get!  Love ya and miss you Buddy.
