O. Karl Schwandt IV
O. Karl Schwandt IV "Oak," 69, of Coatesville, began his eternal life on Monday, May 16th, 2022, at Paoli Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Christine "Tina" Marx Schwandt, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage.
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of Otto Karl Schwandt and Elsa Anderson Schwandt, and spent his childhood in Cedar Knoll and Martin's Corner (West Caln Township).
Oak enjoyed bird watching, hiking, going to church (Valley Baptist Church of Coatesville) and spending time with his family. He also loved the Philadelphia Flyers and played hockey himself for a time. In his last days, his favorite past time was sitting on the couch and listening to "Song and Scripture" while he waited for his wife to return from work. Oak had a strong faith and he loved the Lord.
A 1970 graduate of Coatesville Area High School, Oak started his career in building material sales with Wickes Lumber in Exton. He then worked for J & L building materials from 1985 until his retirement in 2017.
Oak and Tina were blessed with three children: Kurt (Monika) Finiewicz-Schwandt, Von (Jessica) Schwandt, and Erin (Michael) Medianick; and nine grandchildren.
Oak also is survived by his brothers and sisters: Fred (Eleanor) Schwandt, Lynn (Brian) Wolfe, Eric (Joan) Schwandt, Sten (Sandy) Schwandt, Catherine (Timothy) Quinlivan, Sally (Rick) Baublitz, and his beloved mother-in-law, Laverne Marx and her children-- Mary Ann (Glen) Bugge, Tommy (Linda) Marx, Jimmy (Janet) Marx, Sharon (Rich) Malasics, as well as an abundance of nieces and nephews.
Oak was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Elsa Schwandt, and his father-in-law, Thomas Marx Sr.
The funeral service will be held Friday, May 20th at 11:00 am at Valley Baptist Church, located at 200 Airport Road in Coatesville. Visitation will take place from 10:15 am until the time of the service.
Interment will follow at Philadelphia Memorial Park, located at 124 Phoenixville Pike in Frazer.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to have donations made to the Dementia Society of America @ www.DementiaSociety.org.
