Nathan James Mann of Parkesburg tragically passed away on January 19, 2022, at the age of 15. He is the son of Steven J. Mann and Donna (Schmied Mann) McGuigan.

Nathan was kind, funny, smart, and a loyal brother and friend. He had a quiet, gentle nature and accepted everyone as they are. He attended Octorara Senior High School as a straight-A Honors student.

Nathan enjoyed playing video games, with Payday 2, Roblox and Terraria being his favorites. Nathan was a music lover with a talent for easily memorizing lyrics. As a fan of LL Cool J and A Tribe Called Quest, he respected the classics. Among his other favorite artists are System of a Down, Slipknot, Papa Roach, and Primus. Nathan loved all animals, but especially his many pet cats and dog, Leroy.

In addition to his parents, Nathan is survived by his brothers Evan and Travis, step-parents Robin Mann (wife of Steve) and Dan McGuigan (husband of Donna), grandparents Richard and Evelyn Mann and John C. Schmied, and a multitude of adoring uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He is reunited in Heaven with his beloved grandmother, Margaret Schmied.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Friday, February 11, 2022 from Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1121 Octorara Trail, Parkesburg, Pennsylvania 19365. I remember one night me and Nathan stayed up till early morning talking. He spoke to me about his past experiences with attempts at death, I remember being so glad that they were stopped. Now all I’m left with is the pain of knowing how much he could’ve done, but I also take joy in the fact that such a great man was in my life for any period of time. In memory of my good friend Nathan.

My daughter and Nathan were classmates in the younger grades. She has since left Octorara but she didn’t forget who he was. She would described him as someone who was quiet, kind, and left a impression on you that you never forgot who he was.
I am so very sorry to hear of the tragic loss that has hit your family. Losing someone this way is the toughest way ever. I pray that Nathan is finally at peace with the darkness that he fought with and sadden that he thought this was the only way to escape it.
To his parents and siblings I continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. May Nathan watch over you all. Depression is a very scary and tough thing and is so real. I wish for you all to hold tight to the laughs, the smiles and the personality that made Nathan the kind and caring young man he was.

There are no words. Please know I’m here to listen, to cry on, as a safe place to retreat when you need to get out of the house, but still want to be alone. I’ll go on hikes with you, or to concerts if that’s easier, or to yoga or church or whatever it is that will bring you a moment of peace. I’m brought to tears as I imagine how hard this must be. Sending you love and light and strength to be weak. ❤️

Dear family, we are sending well wishes and prayers from West Virginia and holding you in our hearts during this sad time.  We feel very lucky that we had the chance to meet Nathan this past holiday season when he visited Jacob’s family here.  Everyone loved him and was happy he came with them to visit.  Our cat Music (pictured) took a special liking to him as well. Much love to this sweet child- we will all miss him very much and we will be praying for his friends and family to make it through this hard time .
