Donald George Yeoman of Atglen, PA, formerly of Coatesville, passed away peacefully at the Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness on December 9, 2020.  Born on January 7, 1929 at home in Highland Township, Chester County to the late Norman Caleb and Elizabeth Ogden Yeoman.  Donald attended school in Coatesville to the 10th grade and left to pursue employment as a meat cutter working at the Moore’s Meat Market.  He then left to work at the Producer’s Co-Op (egg auction) located between 10th and 11th Avenue in Coatesville until it closed in the early 1970s.  He then went to work as a meat cutter/butcher at Luken’s Cooperative Store located on 1st Avenue in Coatesville becoming the meat manager until the store closed in 1992, having worked in the trade for 47 years.  Don and Betty moved to Atglen in 1997 to their dream home and enjoyed their retirement years there.

Donald is predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth of 59 ½ years and his granddaughter, Sherri Lynn Yeoman.  Also he is predeceased by four brothers, Norman, John, William and Herbert.  He is survived by one son, Donald Gary and his wife, Susan, of Coatesville; as well as a daughter, Donna Yeoman of Atglen and her partner, David Rice.  He is also survived by one sister, Janet March, wife of Lawrence of Ephrata, PA.  He also had numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews as part of his long joyful life.

Prior to his passing and during his life, Donald and Betty enjoyed traveling to Florida and visiting family there and in South Carolina.  He also enjoyed being outside and working in the yard and for many years was the caretaker for the grounds around the church he attended.  He enjoyed doing word puzzles, watching Phillies baseball and 76ers basketball for many years, and taking care of his automobile.  In his youth, he was also known to shoot hoops and play baseball in the park in Coatesville.  He was also the “pin setter” in the old bowling alley located in the basement of the YMCA.  He and Betty also attended the senior group at Penningtonville United Methodist Church for many years for fellowship and crafting.  Donald was also a Life Member of West End Fire Company #3 and enjoyed bartending there for weddings in the hall and in the club room.  He had many friends at that time and often met there for drinks, even one time going on a dare driving to Miami and back in a day.  Although his cronies Benny McKee and Jim Slody are now gone, he often spoke of their escapades and things they did at the fire company.  Donald was known for his soft spoken ways and kind heart and will be missed by those friends and family who knew him best.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 11 AM at Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, with a visitation from 10 until 11 AM.  Burial will follow at St.  Cecilia's Cemetery in Coatesville.  In order to protect those at-risk, please wear a face mask and practice social distancing while at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made the West End Fire Comapny, 134 Strode Ave., Coatesville, PA , 19320.

Condolences

Donna & Family.....I am sorry to hear of your loss.  I did not know your father personally; but I am sure I had seen him at the Lukens Cooperative Store Store many times. I accompanied my father there oftentime.  Such a nice man. I was often treated with bologna samples!!! "Slody"  was a nice person as well.  No doubt you have treasured memories of your father and quality time well spent. May you and your family find comfort in knowing you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Bonnie Dickinson (former VA employee).

Donna, My heart goes out to you in this difficult time. The loss of a parent is one of the hardest things to do in life. Find comfort in your beliefs knowing your father is now in heaven among the angels. Find strength in your friends and family, let them stand behind you. Find peace in all the memories and love you shared throughout a lifetime. He will always be in your heart. Although I cannot be there in person, know that your sadness is in my heart also. My deepest sympathy.

Your Friend Marian Callaghan

Don, Susan and Family
Sorry for the loss of your Dad and Father in law. I am glad that you lived closely and were able to be involved in each others lives. Susan, you were a constant advocate for him. Always there to give him honest communication about his health and you served it up with humor and a laugh. Always pointing out a brightside. Don, your Dad, knew he could count on your strength. Your sistrr residing nearby was a comfort to him. A devoted family to an elderly parent is living love. Peace be with you.
