Ellsworth H. White, 90, of Atglen, passed away on Wednesday, October 9th under the care of Brandywine Hospital. He was the widower of Mary E. Miller White, with whom he shared more than 50 years of marriage.
Born in Atglen, he was the son of the late Harriett Rebecca Cordelia Smith and Roy White.
Ellsworth served honorably in the US Army from 1951 through 1953 during the Korean War. Throughout his life, Ellsworth worked at the former Lukens Steel, the former Lenover Corporation, and at the Green Giant, which later became Pillsbury.
Ellsworth expressed his faith through service to the community of Mt. Zion AME Church. Ellsworth sang in the Men's Choir, New Life Choir, and the Mass Choir; he served in every capacity possible, including usher, trustee and as the cemetery caretaker.
Ellsworth was affectionately known as "Pop". He enjoyed gardening, taking care of his yard and Gospel Music.
He is survived by his two sons, Gregory White, husband of Mary, of Lancaster, and Wayne White of Atglen; four grandchildren, Terrence, Sellena, Re’Teasha, and Shawn; and 12 great-grandchildren; and his last remaining sibling, Dorothy Denson of Parkesburg; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members and his church family.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Gregory White, Jr. as well as his siblings, Edna Melendez, Vera Smith, Beatrice Coleman, and Harold, Donald, Roy Jr., and Vernon White.
The funeral service will take place on Friday, October 18th at 12 noon. To hold all his family and church family, the funeral will be held at Parkesburg United Methodist Church, 411 Main St, Parkesburg, PA 19365 with a viewing at the church from 10 AM until noon. Interment in Mt. Zion AME Cemetery will follow.

Pop I'm gonna miss being able to stop by and get a hug and a kiss when I come to see mookie but the up side is I know you and mom mom are there taking care of my baby boy for me until I get my wings to join you all also I love you and I will never meet a man with so much compassion in his heart as you had in yours❤...Rosalind.
Wonderful Man of God
We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Ellsworth. Seeing him each week, helped make our Sunday complete.
We will definitely miss his loving smile and hugs when we go to church. We know he will be singing in the Heavenly choir and smiling as you did at Mt. Zion.
He was loved by us and many more. There was no mistake in knowing that he loves God. You could see the Godliness on him always. Rest in peace forever!

Mr. Elsworth White
Mr. White:
a strong. silent presence of a man who aided many a family in his role as cemetery caretaker. His care and concern for each plot was evident as he walked those hallowed graves containing bodies of our loved ones. My son, My mother, brother and brother in law were under his care from 1992-today 2019. Also, scores of my ancestors lie beneath the earth for which he lovingly cared. I plan to be there as well-should Jesus delay His coming. Unfortunately, I cannot attend your service, but my father will represent us all from the Wilson family. The next time I come to the beautiful garden of rest that is Zion Hill Cemetery, I will imagine your presence at the gate, and hear your familiar greeting which you gave every single Memorial Day when Dad and I came to tend our family graves. Once your final stone is erected, I will "decorate " your resting place just like you made happen for the many souls resting on the Hill. God bless your family, and may the next caretaker be half as dedicated to this important work.

Just found out yesterday!
Just found out yesterday! Such a wonderful soul. I stopped to visit (if he was home!) each time I was in the area and visiting Mt Zion. He looked so wonderful when I saw him last year. I’m sad.
