Charles M. Hughes, Jr., 85, of Modena, passed away on Thursday, November 10th, 2016 at the Brandywine Hospital.  He was the widower of the late Sylvia Kauffman Hughes, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.  They vacationed in Cecil County, MD every year and enjoyed dancing every weekend.  

Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Viola (Harkins) and Charles M. Hughes, Sr.  He was a graduate of Scott High School.  

Charles worked at Lukens Steel as a Furnace Operator, retiring after 49 years of work.  

He is survived by his three children, Charles Hughes, III, husband of Crystal of Valley Twp., Harvard "Pete" Hughes of Reading and Lisa M. Crockett, wife of Robert, of Perryville, MD.; stepchildren, Cedric "John" Horst, husband of Connie, of Mentor, Ohio, Joan Horst of Denver, Pa, Gary Horst, husband of Milene, of Mentor, Ohio, and son-in-law, Thomas Adams of Naples, Fl.; 19 grandchildren, more than 30 great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren; and his sister, Marthann Schmidt of Myrtle Beach.    

He was predeceased by his stepdaughter, Joann Adams; and four siblings.

The graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 at 11 AM at Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery, 2237 Strasburg Rd, Coatesville, PA 19320.  

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg.

Condolences

As a child, I can remember Kirk coming to the house when he worked in the insurance field.  He was such a gentleman and certainly a hero as well.

Uncle Charles was a good man. But I know he is happy now that he is with his bride of many years. Uncle Charles I promise to take care of your baby sister & my Mother.
