Etta (nee Stevenson) Smith, 85 of Coatesville, PA passed away on August 10, 2014. Born in Gibbstown, NJ, she graduated from Paulsboro High School, Paulsboro, NJ in 1947. After 19 years being a wife and mother she decided to return to school to become a registered nurse. She graduated from Gloucester County College in 1971 with an RN degree. She enjoyed worked most of her career at Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury, NJ.

Etta and her husband, Nolan met in high school and were married for over 66 years. They relocated to Harrison Senior Living in Coatesville, PA three years ago to be closer to their eldest son. Living at HSL has been enjoyable but not Etta's "New Jersey" home. She and Nolan lived "at the top of the hill" on Kings Highway, Mickleton, NJ for 55 years.

Etta was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie (nee Moehring) and Walter Stevenson; three brothers: Benjamin "Benny"; Walter "Bub" and Ervin "Lolly" Stevenson. 

She is survived, in addition to her husband, by two sons, Edward (Darlene) of Gap, PA and Nolan A. Smith of Houston, TX, three grandsons and one granddaughter: Gary (Riann) Smith of Ann Arbor, MI; Christopher (Tammy) Smith of Pine Hill, NJ; Darren (Keri) Smith of Houston, TX and Melissa Smith of Seattle, WA, seven great grandchildren: Christopher, Austin, Nicolas, Audrey, Caleb, Kaitlyn and Emma and three sisters, Rosalie Stefka of Mickleton, NJ; Doris Wilkins of Sewell, NJ and Elsie Fetzer of Burien, WA. 

The family would like to thank everyone at Harrison Senior Living, Coatesville for their compassion, smiles and especially their hugs. Holisticare Hospice was a blessing for both Etta and her family during the past two weeks. They made passing from the earthly world to the Godly world a peaceful one.

As requested by Etta there will be no Memorial Service. She will be cremated and her remains will be held by the family until the time that her husband passes. At that date Etta and Nolan's cremains will be buried together at Eglington Memorial Gardens, Clarksboro, NJ.

Hi Eddy & Nolan,

Sorry to hear of my Aunt Etta's passing, however it is the part of our journey of life.

We were so saddened to hear of Etta's passing. Our family has very found memories living next door to them for over 20 years in Mickleton, we loved Etta (and Nolan) like family. As you grieve, know that we are remembering you and honoring the memory of Etta. Etta was always one of my favorite fellow Underwood hospital Nurses.. I have many fond memories of our 6th floor working together.  She was a wonderful person and a caring nurse.  My condolences to Nolan and the Family.  Sincerely Arlene Miller

I worked with Etta on the sixth floor at Underwood Memorial Hospital.  She was so dedicated to each and every one of her patients.   Nolan and family, please accept my sympathy.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Uncle Nolan. I miss running into the both of you at shop rite in west deptford. You both were always smiling and laughing. I will always treasure the bandage scissors that aunt Etta gave me when I got out of nursing school.
