Beulah E. Steen

Beulah E. Steen, 90, of Chester Springs, formerly of Springdell, died on Monday, February 14, 2011 at the LifeCare Hospital in West Chester. She was the wife of the late C. Raymond Steen, Sr.  Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Evan and Minnie Deck McCarraher.

An area resident all her life, she was employed by the Unionville High School as head of the Cafeteria staff. Beulah attended the Friendship United Methodist Church in Gum Tree and she was the oldest Life Member of the Westwood Fire Company where she enjoyed playing bingo.



She is survived by two sons; C. Raymond Steen, Jr. and wife Carol of Chester Springs and William E. Steen and wife Beverly of Gap, eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.



Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February, 19, 2011 at 11:00 am from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA followed by interment at the Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery in East Fallowfield. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing from 10 to 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westwood Fire Co., 1403 Valley Rd., Coatesville, PA 19320.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of MomMomSteen. She was such a sweet woman who was so lucky to have such a loving family. To have died on Valentines day -- wow -- how true it is that "Now she has gone home to her Sweetheart," as Diane said. My prayers are with you all.

You will be missed Nan. Thank you for being there when mom died so long ago. Thank you for pushing through your grief of losing a sister to be there for her children. Thank you for letting me go to work with you and stack those milk cartons in the school cafeteria, for showing me how to make Easter candy, pie, pot pie and so much more. Although we fought over my pigtails that you pulled so tight, thank you for doing my hair so many school mornings. Thank you for all the little things you did for us and a special thanks for filling in as my son's grandmother. Elementary day school projects for Mother's Day were so hard me, but I knew I could take that paper project home and you would fuss over it and tell me how much mom would have loved it. Thank you for telling me stories of my mom growing up, for telling me I was like her, and thank you for that big smile you would get when folks mistook me for your daughter. It filled my heart. Thank you Nan for always being there thru the best and worst times and especially when Mom (your sister) died and you then became our 2nd Mom, it meant a lot to me growing up! I don't have all the fun time memories that Nancy has ( I was Uncles' boy) but always loved all the food you made especially the pot pie and the great blackberry pies you made from the fresh berries we picked!!! You were and will always be in my heart....Love and God bless

To the family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have know Beulah for over 30 years, ever since I was old enough for my mom to take me to bingo with her at Westwood every Saturday night! She always had laughter in her eyes! My thoughts and prayers are with you all now.

I was very lucky to have you and Uncle in my life as "extra' grandparents. So much so that I think it took me an unduly long time as a child to comprehend you weren't actually grandparents! The fondest and clearest memories of when I was young all revolve around living in Springdell, and spending time with you and uncle; either at the house, or on excursions to Shady Maple for shopping, and always, ice cream after. And always in a Monte Carlo.

Luckily, I got to see you some more later in life as your passion for bingo brought you to Wagontown every week I was volunteering. I think it was the only time I did not mind having my cheeks grabbed in front of a hundred strangers!
