D. Marie Johnson, 89, of Cochranville, passed away on Friday, May 18th, 2012 at the Harrison Senior Living Center of Christiana. She was the beloved wife of Samuel W. Johnson, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage.
Born in Highland Township, Marie was the daughter of the late Earl B. and Dorothy E. (Chestnut) Mattson.
She was a 1942 graduate of the Horace Scott Senior High School. Marie was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church of Gum Tree.
She was the owner and operator of Gum Tree Grocery for 16 years, retiring in 1980; she also had worked at Penguin Industries and sold Tupperware.
Marie is survived, in addition to her husband, by her four children: Patricia Paylor of Lewes, DE., Faye Mattson, wife of Fred, of Sadsburyville, Lois Dodd, wife of Daniel, of Oxford and Samuel E. Johnson, husband of Brenda, of Peach Bottom; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 25th, 2012 at 11 AM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, followed by interment in the Friendship Methodist Cemetery of Gum Tree. The viewing will be held at the Funeral Home on both Thursday evening from 6 until 8 PM and again on Friday morning from 10 until 11 AM.
Memorial donations may be made in Marie's memory to the "Friendship United Methodist Church", 123 East Friendship Church Road, Coatesville, PA 19320.
