Melissa Dorsey Hunter, 82, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Golden Living Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Phoenixville, PA. Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Dixon and Roland Dorsey. Melissa was an avid gardener and loved socializing with family and friends. She was a compassionate, caring person who loved to help people. She lived and worked most of her life in Kennett Square and was employed for over 32 years as a caregiver working at the Pocopson Home and also Linden Hall in Kennett Square, PA.
She is preceded in death by her husband the late George "Babe" Hunter, mother Elizabeth Dixon, step-father James Elmer Louis Dixon, and brothers Richard and Gene Dixon.
She is survived by her long-time companion Roland Phillips, four brothers; James Dixon, Jr., Heywood Dixon, Charles Dixon and George Dixon, five sisters; Mary Woods, Bette Trowery, Dorothy Merritt, Bea States and Antoinette "Toni" Stewart along with brother and sister in laws and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 11:00 am from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg with visitation from 10 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
