Charles R. Killinger
Charles R. Killinger, 93, formerly of Pomeroy, PA, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, in Coatesville, PA. He was the husband of the late Florie (Pugh) Killinger who passed away in 2022, and his first wife, the late Kattie Elsie Killinger, who passed away in 1974. Born in Limeville, Salisbury Township, Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Reuben and Silvia (Martin) Killinger.
An area resident all his life Charles was a retired crane operator at the former Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville. He was a life member of the Pomeroy Fire Company, the Gap VFW and the New Holland American Legion. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a corporal and was stationed in Germany from 1948 to 1954.
Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and caregivers. After his retirement, Charlie and Florie enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains of Pennsylvania. They would travel to Michigan and Florida to visit relatives and friends. They enjoyed going to the Christmas show and various other shows at the American Music Theater. He also enjoyed driving around Lancaster County and shopping at various stores. He loved sitting on his front porch and working around in the yard.
He is survived by his caregiver nephew, Larry Rhoades of Pomeroy, and niece, Dianne (David) Grande, and granddaughter, Mary Grande. He is also survived by a stepson, Ronald Pugh of New Holland, PA, step-granddaughter, Lysa Pugh, and five step-great grandchildren, and a sister, Rose (Alan) Styer of Gordonville, PA, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Leslie Pugh, and siblings, Reuben Killinger, William Killinger, Sara Manning, Betty Killinger, and Dorothy McCarraher.
The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff of Harrison House in Coatesville for being very attentive to Charles' needs and making his stay very comfortable and enjoyable.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM from the Wilde Funeral Home, Parkesburg, PA, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM.Interment to follow at St. John's Cemetery in Compass, PA.
