Newton Haught, 86, from Gap, PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the Hospice & Community Care Center in Mount Joy, PA. His wife Gail (Gregson) Haught survives. They were married 60 years on June 7, 2017.
He was born on March 26, 1931 at Elk Fork in Tyler County, a son of the late Jasper Newton and Nora Alice Minor Haught.
Newton faithfully served our country during the Korean War in the US Marine Corp as a Lance Corporal. He was employed with Conrail Railroad as a Freight Conductor for 36 years before retiring in 1992. He enjoyed being outside, whether it was fishing, hunting, or working in his large garden for many years. One of his gifts was anything mechanical and would often purchase items at yard sales that needed repaired.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Scott Haught married to Jane (Bartel) and a daughter Kimberly King married to Joseph King; three grandchildren Steven Haught, Gregory Haught, and Holly King; and one great granddaughter Nataleigh Haught.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother, 5 sisters, 1 half-brother and 1 half-sister.
Services will be held at Wilde Funeral Home, Parkesburg, PA on Friday, July 28, 2017, at 11:00 AM with visitation from 10-11, with burial in the Parks Cemetery in Tyler County, WV on Monday, July 31 at 10:00 AM. I worked for the Reading RR and occasionally worked with Newt in the Coatesville yard. My step-father Ted Hawk was also a conductor and, if I remember correctly, years ago we rented a place from Newt on State Hill for a while. He was a such a kind man. Wishing Newt's family peace and strength during this difficult time. My thoughts are with you all.
