Sidney George Altman, 87, of Parkesburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 10 at his home. He was the widower of the late Betty Altman who passed away in 1998 after they had shared 45 years of marriage together.
Born in Philadelphia, Sidney was the son of the late Sarah (Feldman) and Joseph Altman. A resident of Parkesburg his entire life, Sid was a graduate of the Parkesburg High School and attended two years at Drexel University. He served honorably in the US Army during World War II.
Sid was the owner of Altman's Shopping Center. He later purchased and became owner of Silverstein's Shopping Center in Oxford.
He was a member of the Beth Israel Synagogue of West Chester.
Sidney is survived by two sons, Ira Altman of Exton and David Altman of Providence, Rhode Island; and four grandchildren, Leah, Claire, Hannah and Ben, all of California.
The graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, September 12th at Har Nebo Cemetery, 6061 Oxford Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19149. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Parkesburg Lions Club, in care of Nancy Gauthier PDG, 421 W. 5th Ave. Parkesburg, PA 19365.

Sidney was active in the Lions Club and in the community. He always greated everyone and enjoyed a nice chat.

Sidney's passing
So sorry to hear of Sidney's passing. I have many fond memories of him when I was growing up. He was a wonderful gentleman. My heartfelt condolences go out to his children and grandchildren.

Remembering Sidney Altman
We remember shopping in Oxford with our small children at Silverstein's. Sidney always had a good deal for us. In later years we always looked forward to seeing him at Lions club and at the Lions picnic that we held at our home. He will be missed.

Sorry for your loss. I remember buying shoes from his store in Parkesburg. He was a nice and kind man. He will be missed.

Out Thoughts and Prayers are with the family and friends of Mr Altman (Sidney). Having a large family we were at his clothing store on 1st Ave. Parkesburg often. We were treated with much kindness and he knew us by name. He was a really kind person. May he rest in peace.
