Mae Elizabeth Parmer "Dolly" Godra, 91, life long resident of Highland Township, Chester County, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Martin Godra, Jr. who died in 1994 and her first husband the late John W. Peterson who died in 1980. Dolly was born in Highland Township and was the daughter of the late Luther J. and Mary Edna Jury Parmer.
She graduated from Unionville High School in 1938 and was also a graduate of the Bryland Institute Beauty School of Lancaster in 1942. She operated a beauty shop in her home for over 40 years. Mrs. Godra was a member of Friendship Methodist Church of Gum Tree where she joined at the age of eight. She served as a trustee, taught Sunday School for 30 years and was a former member of the adult choir. Dolly was well known and very active in local politics serving as a Republican Committee Person for 30 years.
She is survived by one son, Craig S. Peterson of Chicago, IL, two stepchildren; Martin Godra of Wellsboro, PA and Joyce Morrison of Brookhaven, PA, nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by three siblings; Ellwood "Buddy" Parmer, Ruth P. Scott and Jean P. McLimans.
Funeral services will be on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 11:00 am from the Friendship United Methodist Church, 123 E. Friendship Rd. Coatesville, PA 19320 followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing on Thursday evening, June 16 from 6 to 8:00 pm at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA and also at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in her memory to the Friendship United Methodist Church at the above address or the Brandywine River Valley Hospice, 121 Bell Tower Lane, Oxford, PA 19343.

My sincere condolances to Craig and all of the family. I pray Dolly is in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ. What a beautiful legacy Dolly leaves behind.....so beautiful and always "First Class"! She had a true gift of hospitality and enjoyed sharing her lovely home with family, friends and her church family. You ALWAYS felt welcomed in her presence, she was always interested and was such a gracious listener. Dolly's passion for life was only surpassed by her love for her family! I will miss her sparkling intellect and sense of humor. The community of "Gum Tree", which she called home will never be the same..........ever!! Thank You Dolly, for making this world a more beautiful place. Rest in God's Peace.
