Clyde R. "Sonny" McCarter

Clyde R. "Sonny" McCarter, Sr., 90, of Coatesville, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Alexander F. and Ruth L. Markle McCarter.

Sonny was an area resident all his life and a 1947 graduate of the former Scott High School in Coatesville.  He proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He was last employed by Roberts Auto Mall of Downingtown as Service Director. He was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church.

Sonny is survived by four children; Ruth Ellen Anderson and husband Doug of West Caln, Roxanne McCarter of Lincoln University, C. Richard McCarter, Jr. of Gum Tree and Robin Leigh Whiteman and husband Charles of Honey Brook, his ex-wife Lola Smith of Coatesville, six grandchildren; Geoffrey H. Bates, Jr., K. Elizabeth Bates, Robert A. Anderson, Richard H. Anderson, Jessica L. Estes, and Laura Fredd-Maxwell and 13 great-grandchildren; Tristen G. Bates, Tessa Bates, Nathan, Sarah, James and Leah Anderson, Lindsay Anderson, Jenna and Landon Willmott, Bryce Estes, Anderson, Teddy and Sheridan Maxwell, and one sister Donna F. Anderson of Honey Brook. He was preceded in death by one brother James McCarter.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at 11:00 AM from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA followed by interment at the Friendship Methodist Cemetery, Gum Tree, PA. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Friendship United Methodist Church, 123 E Friendship Church Rd. Coatesville, PA 19320.
