Richard I. "Dick" Whiteman
Richard I. "Dick" Whiteman, 86, of Atglen, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at his home. He was the husband of Theodora (Kulick) Whiteman, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.
Born in Coatesville, Dick was the son of the late Elsie (Detterline) and William Whiteman. He was a 1953 graduate of the S. Horace Scott Senior High School. He worked at the former Lukens Steel for 42 years as a heater and later in maintenance. He worked and attended the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Coatesville and later at St Michael's Lutheran Church in Strasburg.
He played softball for the Lukens League and was a member of the West End Fire Co. and Brandywine Fire Co., volunteering as a Fire Policeman for Brandywine. He was a member of the Polish Club of Coatesville.
Dick loved the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies; he loved to clean; he enjoyed going on vacation to Disney World, the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina. He loved his cat "Rainbow" and caring for his good friend’s dog, "Bella."
He is survived, in addition to his wife, Thea, by his sons, Richard(wife, Marie) and Kevin Whiteman; his grandson; and two great-grandchildren; brother, Clair "Mike" Whiteman (wife, Bettie Lou) sister-in-law, Deneen; brother-in-law, Gary; nieces Danielle and Anna; and his great-nephew and niece, Dominic and Gabrielle Javines. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces who he loved very much.
A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 22 from 1 PM until 2 PM at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 107 South 17th Avenue, Coatesville, PA 19320. Due to capacity limitations, the funeral service will be private. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery of Coatesville.
In order to protect those at-risk, please wear a face mask and practice social distancing while at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick's memory to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 107 South 17th Avenue, Coatesville, PA 19320.
