William J Russell Sr.
William J Russell Sr., age 74, peacefully passed away on July 13th, 2021. Born in Coatesville, He was the son of the late William and Henrietta Russell. He grew up and lived in Parkesburg most of his life. He graduated from Octorara High School in 1964. At the age of 20 he was drafted into the Army and served two years during the Vietnam era as a sharpshooter. He was employed by Reading Railroad which became Conrail and later Septa after 25 years.
Bill was a member of the VFW in Parkesburg Pa. Bill enjoyed spending his time outdoors doing activities like fishing and camping. His hobbies were woodworking and restoring furniture. He loved history and traveling to different places. The most important thing in Bill’s life was spending time with his family. His children and grandchildren will remember him most by his abundance of stories that he shared. Bill’s favorite time of the year was Christmas. He loved everything about Christmas from the decorations to the movies.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Dorothy Russell and their three children Brenda Posey, Joy Whisler Wife of Gene Whisler, and William J Russell Jr. Alongside his children and wife are 9 grandchildren, Tamara Posey, Trisha Posey, Bria Posey, Ashley Posey, Jerry Scarborough Jr. Husband of Jordan Scarborough, Zach Scarborough, Owen Russell, Ryan Russell, Madisyn Russell. Also, he is survived by his 8 great-grandchildren Kylar Scarborough, Kameron Scarborough, Kohen Scarborough, Heather Bills, Tommy Bills, Gabby Scarborough, Nevaeh Scarborough, and Xander Santos. Alongside his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren is his sister Betsy Redifer and his two nephews and niece. He was preceded in death by his son, William B Russell of Salisburyville and Greatgrandson Landon J Scarborough.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. from the Wilde Funeral Home, Parkesburg, PA, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.
