William Eby Hershey Sr., 87, of Cochranville, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Hospice and Community Care of Mount Joy, PA. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Groff Hershey with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Born in Nine Points, he was the son of the late Edith (Weir) and Peter E. Hershey.
Bill was employed by Penn Dot where he worked for a number of years as an equipment operator.He also held positions at Hall's Paving and Althouse Transportation. He was an active member of the Cochranville Fire Company and the Cochranville United Methodist Church.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by four children; William E. Hershey, Jr. and wife Sally, J. Robert Hershey and wife Yvonne, Sharon H. Althouse and husband John and Terri H. Linnenbaugh and husband Michael all of Cochranville, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two siblings; Kenneth Hershey of Oxford and Mary Groff of Quarryville. He was preceded in death by siblings, Marian Smeltz and Milton Hershey.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Cochranville United Methodist Church, 92 Church St, Cochranville, PA 19330 followed by interment at the adjoining cemetery. Viewing from 9:30am to the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Cochranville United Methodist Church at the above address or the Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.

I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I will surely miss Mr. Hershey. I got to know him through my employment with Althouse Transportation. Mr. Hershey would be fueling my bus & I chatted with him as I was emptying my trash. He was such a great person and I loved his smile. I loved those few minutes that we had to chat & I'm glad that I had the pleasure of knowing him!

when a person thinks of cochranville fire co bill comes to mind I am personally thankful to remember him as he and my dad would go fox hunting and both enjoyed talking about their times they went and his friendship with many people he met anywhere you seen him he would take a moment to talk a friend of many will for sure be missed I am looking forward to seeing him and my dad again soon in heaven

My condolences to the Hershey Family for their loss. The family and the community have lost one of Gods greatest gifts. Bill was an upstanding role model to everyone he came in contact with and will be greatly missed.

The Gift of Humor
No matter what the occassion, you could count on Bill to make you laugh. We have fond memories of him at our New Years celebrations at camp Savage in Potter County. Bill had a unique gift of humor. This world has lost some laughter, but we are sure Heaven has some new smiles. Bill will be missed.

Bill Hershey will be remembered by his friends in the Cochran Hunt as a true gentleman. We enjoyed his great smile and his enthusiasm for fox hunting. He touched all of us whether we were mounted or following by vehicle. It was our pleasure to see Bill each week, he will be sorely missed.

My Gardening Buddy!
I will surly miss Bill, he would walk over to chat and we would kid each other about our gardening, I would do the same.
