William Glenn McKee, 82, died peacefully on March 15, 2014 at the Coatesville V.A. Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Langeloth, Pa. to Peter T. and Mary E. Smith McKee. Mr. McKee was the husband of Patricia Groce McKee, having just celebrated 60 years of marriage in December, 2013.
After the death of his parents, Mr. McKee moved to Coatesville with his sister. He was the first of 14 to graduate from high school, graduating in 1950 from S. Horace Scott High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving from 1951 - 1954 during the Korean conflict. He served aboard the William T. Powell DE 213.
Mr. McKee was employed by G.O. Carlson Stainless Steel as a truck driver and then in the storeroom until his retirement in 1996 after 40 years. Following retirement, he enjoyed watching TV, especially the Steelers, doing word puzzles, and sitting with his pets.
Mr. McKee was a volunteer firefighter, serving on the Board of Directors as well as a life member of the West End Fire Company of Coatesville and a previous member of the American Legion, Post 175, in Washington, PA.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Catherine McKee with whom he lived for the past five years, and Judith, wife of Joseph Killian, and daughter-in-law Bonnie; 3 grandchildren: Christopher Pluck and wife Kristee of Parkesburg, Amanda Lynne McKee of Morgantown, and Todd McKee Reese of Coatesville, and 7 great grandchildren: Sierra Myers, Christopher Pluck Jr., Savannah Jo Pluck, Karson Skowood, Kaydence Renee, Sophie Baron and Camaro Lynne DeHaven, and one brother, Harry "Mouse" McKee of Washington, PA.
Mr. McKee was preceded in death by a son William Douglas McKee, 1 grandson Brian E. Pluck, and 5 sisters and 7 brothers.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 21 at 11 AM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg with visitation from 10 until 11. Interment will be held at the Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wilde Funeral Home to help offset the cost the funeral.
