T. Elizabeth Jones
T. (Theressa) Elizabeth “Betty" Stanton Jones of Kennett Square, PA departed this life at the age of 89 on March 18, 2021, peacefully at home surrounded by family. Elizabeth was born in Coatesville, PA on June 20, 1931, the daughter of the late James Henry Stanton and Theressa Pennington Stanton. She was the wife of her late husband, Howard L. Jones, Sr., for fifty-three years.
Elizabeth was a loving homemaker to her husband and children. She was a devoted grandmother who took tremendous joy in caring for her grandchildren and teaching them how to bake. Her excellent baking skills included making pies, cakes and breads that were favorites with family and friends. Her infamous ‘bean pie’ was the subject of many who tried to obtain or guess the recipe with no success. She only passed the recipe down to family members.
Once her children were grown, she worked part-time. Her favorite job was as a cashier at Wawa in Chadds Ford, PA interacting with customers.
When her husband retired, they traveled to many destinations that included Hawaii and Alaska.
Family was important to her and hosting family gatherings was a tradition she cherished. She enjoyed attending monthly luncheons with her “lunch bunch” friends and the Foxy after Fifty Red Hat Club. She was a faithful member of the Greater Emmanuel Temple Church.
She is survived by five children, Laura Jackson, Linda Poe (Jerry) of Kennett Square; Howard Jones, Jr., of Lancaster, PA; Derrick Jones (Evelyn) of Middletown, DE; and Hallice Jones (Kimberly) of Kennett Square; two brothers, Robert Stanton of Chattanooga, TN; and Sherwood Stanton of Coatesville; nineteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her daughters Louise Jones and Lizabeth Jones, three brothers, one sister and one son ln-law.
Due to covid, a private funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at 12 noon. The service can be viewed live at 12 noon on Wilde Funeral Home's Facebook page by clicking here. If you are unable to watch the service live, it will be saved to our Facebook page and can be viewed at your convenience.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg.
